Monday Morning

Happy Birthday Tori!

Greetings to all,

I have to start today with happy birthday wishes to my sweet daughter, Tori.  She has helped me immensely with  annemadethis, so special thanks and love go out to her this weekend!

And here is a new bracelet, Tori designed and I created.  It is three strands of leather closed with a toggle clasp.  Porcelain and paper beads embellish the leather cords.  if you make this bracelet, be sure that all of your beads have holes large enough for the leather cords to pass through.  You can use a combination of  leather, hemp or even a ball chain to add some variety to the bracelet.

Tori's Bracelet

Journals with hand decorated covers is another great use for recycled paper and embellishments.  It makes a great project for groups of all ages and I thought might work well with some of spring workshops.  The journals start with inexpensive hard cover composition books or sketch books.  You can use any size for this project.  Magazine scraps, colored paper, fabric and even fibers are glued to the covers until you get a pleasing design.  Be careful not to get glue on the inside pages.  Stamping, buttons, beads, ribbons, paints and pastels can be used for finishing touches.  Sometimes I even decorate the first page or add a cute bookmark, just for fun!  Then I put a few generous coats of Triple Thick acrylic gloss to protect it all.  I'll be making a few of these journals for my Etsy shop, if you'd like to take a look.  Here are some examples.

So please stop by my shop annemadethis, I'll be adding some new things.  And like my Facebook page!  If you have any questions about this post, or any others please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for checking in,

anne

Wine Glass Charms made with Paper Beads
These are some things that I worked on this week, of course more memory wire bracelets!  But I will stop those soon.  They just look so dramatic on your wrist.  The newest item is a set of wine glass charms.  They are fun at parties, help guests keep track of their drinks and make great hostess & holiday gifts.  Check my Etsy site for postings.

TUBE BEAD BRACELET TUTORIAL

Above are examples of the Elastic Tube Bead Bracelet.  Each bracelet looks very different, depending on the paper used to form the bead.  To start, you will need about 32  3/4" long beads to make the bracelet. (Directions for making beads are on my July 16, 2012 post. ) You will also need about 55" of 1mm. clear elastic to make the bracelet.

1. Take the first bead and center it on the elastic, keeping both ends even.

2. Take one end of the elastic and thread it through the second bead, take the other end of the elastic and thread it through second bead from the other end.  Pull both ends of the elastic tight.  Make sure both hanging ends of elastic are even and the two beads are laying flat.

3. Continue in this manner, threading the beads from each end of the elastic.  Be sure to keep bracelet and tighten after each bead until bracelet measures about 7 1/2"-8" (will stretch to fit almost any size wrist).

4. Hold both ends of elastic and pull each bead, starting with the second bead, to tighten the preceding bead.  This will remove all of the slack from the elastic thread.

5. Take each end of the elastic and string through opposite ends of the first bead.  This will make your flat bracelet into a loop.  Pull tight.

6. Take one end of the elastic thread and thread it through the bead adjacent to the first bead.  Both ends of the elastic will be on the same side.

7. Make sure all is tight and then knot elastic several times.  Put a dot of cement, GS-Hypo cement or E6000 and the knot will be secure forever.  Let dry and cut off remaining elastic.

Try these directions out. If they seem complicated, let me know where and I will try to clarify them.  Have fun!

Glorious Saturday

Hi to all,
Anne and Tori

What a glorious Saturday for the Jazz and Craft Fair. It was wonderful and would have been totally impossible without the help of my daughter Tori and my sister Kaye Lynn. There were over 2000 participants listening to live music, dancing, browsings the crafts and eating! By the way, our new canopy worked prety well, only one snafu we have to check out.

Later on, we are tired!!
Now I'd like to give a shout out to one of my fellow Etsy artists--Emmy Williams.  She believes in recycling and reusing to create her art.  Emmy makes her pieces from recycled paper, plastic, glass, and metal  You can check it all out at her shop on the Etsy site Emmysgreenthings.

And finally my new item of the week.  I have reworked my memory wire bracelets to include paper beads and wrap around your wrist six times. The bracelet forms a cuff about 2".

Please check the bracelet out my Etsy site this week.

Talk to everyone soon,

Endless Inspiration

Hi to all,

I really don't have a lot to say today, but I do have pictures of the pieces I worked on this week, all inspired by vintage buttons, pins and charms we sorted through a few weekends ago.  This box of buttons will be an endless source of creative energy!

Ode to a Gardener

Ode to a Gardener is the first piece that was crafted the from those  buttons.   I absolutely love it!  The bracelet is made of vintage buttons, pins and some beads from my stash, even a paper bead.  It is a custom order and will not be posted for sale.  In fact it is a gift, so if you know who it is for, don't say anything!  It is supposed to be a surprise.  Already, I have another bracelet fashioned from vintage buttons, crystals and earrings laid out on my studio work table. It is a real dazzler, all pearls, gold and rhinestones.  Take a look on my Etsy site during the week, it will be posted soon.

Chunky Blue Paper Bead Necklace
Above is another one of my creations, inspired by collection of vintage buttons.  I made this necklace from some giant paper beads, crafted from a box that contained trash bags.  Aren't the colors great.  I strung these paper beads with large acrylic beads, wooden beads and some of my vintage buttons using a technique that summer campers use with lanyard.  The necklace is a great statement  piece.  If you want stringing directions just let me know.  The necklace is posted on my Etsy site, please take a closer look, let me know what you think.

This week I met with a Nature Center and visited their gift shop We discussed workshops, a possible holiday fair for local "green" artists and displaying my pieces for placement in their shop. Here is a necklace made with my vintage buttons and paper beads rolled from their Wild Life Encyclopedia destined for the trash.  I made this necklace specifically for the Nature Center gift shop.

Vintage papers
Finally, I am now offering  some the same vintage papers I use for my beads, these papers are posted on my Etsy site.  They are original pages from an old atlas,  a wild life encyclopedia, my forty year old French grammar books and some pages from the reproduction copy of Jane Eyre I used for the Jane Eyre collection pieces.  There is more information about the vintage papers on my Etsy site, just follow the link.  You can  use the paper for many different projects including, paper beads, scrapbooking, collage, card making etc. And consider that all of these book have been rescued from the trash, using these pages is all part of my recycling and reusing philosophy.

Check it out.

Talk to you soon,
